Zen Shiatsu 1:
Ancient Art of Healing Touch
(12 hours)
March 29 & 30, 2025 (6 hours each day)
Taught by Yoshi Nakano (Instructor since 1989)
Healing nonverbal and non-dualistic touch communication is derived from the metaphysical, mammalian relationship between mothers and their babies. Class will explore spiraling universal forces through touch meditation to allow for nature’s grace, growth, expansion, and renewal.
In this course, the following will be introduced:
- Tanden breathing and basic Kata
- self-care grounding exercises for Hara
- basic theory and principles of Zen Shiatsu
- kinetic breath synchronization techniques with tanden breathing
- various hydrostatic touch skills and sensitivity
- introduction to Bladder Meridian
Additionally, we will integrate abdominal health observation skills with a yin/yang life perspective.
Using a one-hand approach with receptive maternal touch for the hara (entire abdominal area), participants will explore a non-intrusive energetic capacity. This method supports insightful communication touch, and can restore the vital source of qi/ki/prana through the vascular system, unwind body-mind disturbances, improve lymphatic drainage and help reset the autonomic nervous system.
Transformative touch meditation practices help regulate sleep and internal homeostatic systems, and support the mutual well-being of givers and receivers. Benefits can extend beyond yourself to families, communities and humanity. Sessions take 20-30 minutes and can be used as a foundation for any bodywork practice, including massage and yoga therapy. Zen Shiatsu is a natural home(coming) remedy for everyone, anywhere, anytime without any special tools or products.
Our happiness depends on our guts!
All participants are required to receive a Zen Shiatsu session by a certified Shiatsu practitioner.
After completion of this basic foundation study, you are eligible to enroll in the Zen Shiatsu 2 program in April 2025.
